We headed south to Yuma AZ. As We approached Quartzite I was getting so excited for Sheryl to see the sea of RVs and 5th wheels dry docked in the desert.
Dry docking is when the RVs and 5th wheel trailers have no hook up. They run on generator power, they have to refill their water tanks manually and have to carry out their own grey water (H20 from washing) and black water (from the potty). G & G Opp did this once for five weeks with 2 other couples. The men would gather the grey and black H20 and get on a 4 wheeler and drive with it to the dumping spot. (could you imagine if they had accident..YUCK!) Then they would bring clean water back. They pay for a pass and they get to park any where. There are not any trees or plot markings they just find a spot and put their home away from home in any directions. Some have friends and they make a semi-circle to have some wind reduction.
Sheryl and I agreed not to let each other park our new 150,000+ traveling home in the middle of the desert to be sand blasted. We do not get it!! There are plenty of groomed places with hook ups.
We passed by the Yuma proving ground. The desert is a great place to train for Iraq. Military vehicles were cruising in the dunes and helicopters in the sky.
Then we saw this huge white fish like flying balloon. I saw this up in the sky when I made my solo trip to Yuma. Grandpa told us it is used for border control.
Then we passed by huge farms the closer we got to Yuma. Growing mostly lettuce, citrus, beans and watermelon. There are white school buses with out housed mounted on the back that bring day laborers from Mexico. They have to return to Mexico by 4 pm.
We went to California to see the sand dunes. Rolling sand hills as far as you can see.
We arrived at G & G's at 5 pm. Grandma made me kraut-strudel for my birthday. They are baked bread dough with hamburger and sour kraut in them and baked in the oven YUM!!!!
We played Mexican train a Dominoes game. We played halfway through the 13 rounds I was winning by a landslide, then grandpa, grandma and Sheryl who was new to the game was far behind.
